Considering the truly appalling weather we had in the week prior to the big day, I am delighted to say the evening went off incredibly well. For those who ventured out I am sure you will all agree it was a brilliant display even though the elements did all they could to dampen both the spirit and the fireworks. Thank you so much for supporting our event and fully justifying our decision to go ahead, when so many other events across the country were cancelled.
Thanks go to all of you who helped build the bonfire and, of course, grateful thanks to Blamphayne Sawmills who donated the wood. Thanks, of course, must go to Mike Fielden and his team who set up and fired a spectacular firework display and it is pleasing to confirm they all emerged unscathed from the experience! Thanks also to Hazel Goodier and her team of cooks and servers for laying on an amazing array of fantastic dishes. It is a huge compliment to Branscombe that the vast majority of the ingredients were locally sourced. There were also a number of people who helped before the day, on the day and into the evening. The list is long, too long to include here, but you know who you are. It simply would not have been possible without your contribution of time and energy. Thank you very much from all of us who so enjoyed the evening. David Lamb Chairman We are fortunate to have the Sidmouth Gospel Choir and the Sidmouth Ukulele Band visiting the Branoc Hall to play for us on the Saturday 14th October at 7.30pm. This is a free concert with donations being taken during the evening to cover the costs. Everyone is very welcome to join us.
A Halloween Bingo evening has been arranged for Saturday 28th October. Doors open at 7pm and eyes down at 7.30pm. Please come and join in for a fun filled evening.
On Saturday 2nd September, the East Devon Malaylee Association held their annual celebration of the festival of Onam in the village hall. Onam is an annual Indian harvest festival celebrated predominantly by the Hindus of the Kerala region and is an opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family. The day included games, food and dancing. They also extended an invitation to any residents in the village who wished to join them for all or part of the day to see how they celebrate this important festival. We were extremely pleased that they chose Branoc Hall for their special day and were delighted that they extended the invitation to our village too. It was a truly lovely day.
Every Wednesday afternoon there is a Post Office facility in the foyer at Branoc Hall which is run by Colyton Post Office. This is available from 1.30pm to 3.30pm every week. It is a vital resource to many residents in the village.
On the 3rd Wednesday of every month there is a cake and chat session which is run by two volunteers from the village, John and Andrea. This is an opportunity for anyone to pop in for a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of delicious homemade cakes and a chat. It is open from 2pm until 4pm and there is no charge, just a request for donations towards the costs of running the event. Since it began the numbers have increased and is now a very popular monthly event at Branoc Hall.
A fundraising Race Night took place in September 2022 in Branoc Hall. It was a huge success and raised over £1300 towards the new pavilion.
